STARRING: BRENDAN ROUTH, KEVIN SPACEY, KATE BOSWORTH, PARKER POSY, JAMES MARSDEN

The Man of Steel is back! After having left earth five years earlier, he’s returned but the world has changed and people have managed to get along without him, even his beloved Lois Lane has moved on…but with Lex Luther on the loose it’s not long before people are screaming for SUPERMAN! Firstly to clear up, this is NOT as bad as many have made it out to be! I actually really enjoyed it and think that Singer (of X2) did a superb job.

Any which way you cut it, Routh is not Reeves and the brand has come a long way since the 80/90’s. What Singer offers is a more evolved, modern product, but still maintains the essence of the original Superman films. The costume design, cinematography, set design and all the elements of the film are quintessentially Superman.

Superman was always a little cheezy and maybe that doesn’t fly in these modren movie times, but perhaps the sometimes over the top comedy in the film put a few people off, with the likes of Parker Posy (Blade 3) and Kevin Spacey taking on a less serious role than Routh.

The fight scenes were great, and more than once I had to catch my breath and stop myself from cheering him on.

If you want to split hairs then the acting wasn’t phenominal and Routh’s speaking parts were kept to an absolute minimum, but Routh is a great Superman, young, maybe, but as Clark/Supes he is perfect! Bosworth I felt wasn’t as bland as most made her out to be, I really got a sense of her longing to be with Superman, but the same fate chains Batman, Spiderman and Superman, you can never be with the one you love, and I felt this from both of them.

The plot too is a little wishy washy and maybe for the sequel they could aim to beef it up a little, but it’s not ‘thinking’ film and there is no need to unravel the twisted plot, it’s merely a ’sit back and enjoy the ride film!’

I am not big into spoilers, so I won’t give any but there are some nice twists, great special effects and more than worth your time to watch!!
